V DAO has been a semi-centralised organisation funded and incubated by 5th World since inception. The goal of this proposal is to progressively decentralise the DAO whilst staying true to 5th World’s original vision & mission of incubating Anti-Fragile Network State communities & solutions.
Since the launch of V DAO in February 2024 both 5th World and the Governance Circle have been committed to progressive decentralization. It was identified in 2024 that a key first step on this roadmap is to set up a separate entity which can be co-owned and governed by DAO members.
To progress this decentralisation roadmap, V DAO will fork Nouns DAO on-chain Governance and DUNA legal entity structure. The Nouns community invested $500k+ from their treasury in developing this legal/ governance framework and they have made it fully open source for other DAOs to use. Structures such as DAO LLC, Cayman Foundation and Swiss Foundation were also explored but the Nouns model appears to be the most suited to V DAOs needs.
This one token one vote model unlocks on-chain governance within the core 5W / V DAO contributor community by:
The DUNA requires the DAO to select a Compliance Administrator, Backup Administrator and Veto Administrator. 5thworld will retain these roles for 3 years after which they will be DAO elected positions with a 1 year term.
150 Governance Badges will be pre-minted by 5th World. 75 will be retained. The remaining 75 will be distributed to relevant stakeholders based on contribution point metrics agreed by the Governance Circle (see below for more details).
A further tranche of Gov badges will be available for purchase by DAO contributors who have completed the membership application process.
V DAO Guardians Council
Governance Badges owned by 5th World will be delegated to a council of 10 DAO guardians (7/10 multisig) composed of DAO Circle Leads, the Governance Circle secretary and members of the 5th World board or their chosen representatives.
At launch, Gov badges are only available to those who have gone through the membership application process. The DAO can vote at any time in the future to release further tranches of Governance badges via nouns style public auction or alternative.
The DAO aims to release a minimum of 750 Governance Badges over 5 years. Every 10th Governance Badge is minted automatically to the DAO treasury.
